Edgbaston 6s vs. Olton 5s

The Sixes arrived at EHS (or was it KES?) on time and ready, only to find that between all thirteen of us we couldn't figure out how to open a padlock. Some quick sleuthing luckily found a second entrance that allowed us to actually get onto the pitch.

After a Chris Reynolds lead stretching and drill session, the game commenced. Edgbaston looked shakey in the first twenty minutes, resulting in a goal from Olton. Down one, we came back with a stunning short corner routine, completed by some quick thinking and good, technical footwork from Michael Chalmers to even the score at one-all going into the second half.

It seemed that Edgbaston had hit our stride, and Oscar Bond quickly put not one, but two goals into the opposition net. Some even more rapid thinking on my part (and the highlight of the match from my point of view) was the declaration that "Bond likes his goals shaken, not stirred". I'm still chuckling.

Sam Lowe was putting in a strong performance, until a stray ball from a rather aggressive younger player hit him in the head, and downed him. He wasn't going to play today, out of fear of injury, so we're glad to have proved his fears rights. Chalmers decided enough was enough, and attempted to tussle with the player, who was somewhere between the ages of 5-13. He lost this tussle convincingly, being cleanly knocked off his feet.

With SLowe gone, Olton returned ferociously, scoring a pair of goals to put the score at an even and fair 3-3 at final whistle.

Man of the Match went to myself, for quick wit and quick running. Honourable mention to Oscar for his goals.

Dick of the day was the unfortunate Michael, who lost a fight to someone half his height and weight. Dishonourable mention to SLowe for headbutting a hockey ball.
